I first found out about Delicious, the social bookmarking site, back in my Certificate III blogging course and I saved a few bookmarks as part of an exercise, and I've never been back. It's not something I found the time or inclination to explore or learn how to use properly.
I've been back today and I have been searching some gesture based computing bookmarks and I've found a few that might be really useful for my research, but it says a lot that I automatically saved the links in my own "favourites" folder rather than remembering to add the links to my Delicious account.
Delicious IS an excellent research tool, which makes it an excellent library tool, purely because it allows you to search articles other people felt were interesting enough to tag and save, but I find it a bit frustrating that a high number of the links were dead, due to, I'm guessing, it being up to every member to update their own links and this doesn't happen. I do love that my bookmarks are available wherever I log into a computer, which is a definite advantage over just adding to my personal favourites. You can also follow like minded individuals with similar interests, similar to other social media sites, keeping up with what they are tagging and adding.
My experience today probably brings me closer to embracing the world of social bookmarking, but it will take some self discipline and practice to create a habit.
Thanks Kim, you have put into words exactly what I was thinking about Delicious too.
