Talking Library Technology

There are a wealth of blogs out there discussing all things library, The Annoyed Librarian http://lj.libraryjournal.com/blogs/annoyedlibrarian/ (an American blog that I find both amusing and informative) and Information Today Inc http://www.infotoday.com/default.asp being just two I checked out for my assignment today and are well worth investigating.

However, the blog I've chosen to look at a bit more closely, is Library Tech Talk.

Library Tech Talk http://libtechtalk.wordpress.com/ is a blog created by Librarians at the Albert S. Cook Library at Towson University, Maryland, USA.  The blog was created in 2008 and is a comprehensive discussion on everything from social media, design, software, hardware and technological developments, all relating to libraries in some way.

A post about gesture based computing - my research topic - with links to sites and projects that will be of great use to my research, is a well thought out exploration of the constraints of this technology, number one being cost which makes this technology prohibitive for most libraries at the moment.

I found many posts of interest, including one about Canva, which is a brand new Internet start up company from Sydney, which provides desktop publishing and design tools online for free and I think would be of incredible use in libraries of any context.

I like that the site is written in plain English, is non-commercial and seeks to educate without bias or judgement and the authority of the site is clearly and easily found. It is quite word heavy and is a more traditional style of blog rather than the newer magazine styles, but this is more than made up for by the information they provide.

This blog is written and edited by Kimberly Miller, M.S.I (Master of Science in Information) who is the Research and Instruction Librarian for Emerging Technologies at Towson University in Baltimore. Through this blog, she and contributing authors, provide discussion and exploration of emerging and current technologies in a library context. The discussion is non biased and objective, reporting rather than reviewing and non-commercial. Archived posts from the site's commencement in 2008 to the present day, offer a comprehensive snapshot of modern day library technology. While specific for academic libraries, the plain English, conversational style of this blog would make this a blog of interest to information professionals in any field.

  1. very good Kim

An excellent relevant choice and a very good annotated citation. I think to make it perfect that you should state the authority (even though you ahve implied it)

    well done
